Let’s see what’s been happening in the woods since the last time we met…. mud. A lot of mud. Winter, so far, has been a bit too warm for my good.

The Dawn of a Decade

We usually skip the whole New Years bit. I barely ever even notice that it happened, except when I write the previous year on my checks until March. I honestly don’t know if my kids even know it’s a holiday. I’m too dang tired from the festivities that start in October to the end of December.

The Christmas countdown is in full swing at the Kimball household. We had a small family party last night and the kids raked in a couple guitars, fishing lures, an RC monster truck, and another lego forestry tractor (basically a skidder). They are currently playing with the skidders and I just over heard Gardner say “do you have time for a safety meeting?” Safety first, ALWAYS. See insurance companies, we are teaching them young…. now can we decrease the darn premiums?

We don’t take many holidays off, but Thanksgiving is one I’m not going to miss. It is nice to take the time to reflect on what I’m thankful for this time of year because all too often we are caught up in the trials and tribulations of the logging business and forget to pause and look at what we really have. This year I have much to be thankful for.

With tomorrow being Veteran’s Day I’d like to take a moment to truly thank those who have served and continue to serve our great nation. We deeply appreciate the sacrifice and the work you all do to keep us free and safe. Taking the time to reflect on the courage and the sacrifice of the military puts into perspective our work. While we may stress about breakdowns, insurance costs, mill prices, etc we are grateful for the freedom provided to us by those who serve!
