This week IN the Woods

Well it started back out just like any year… you spend the whole spring maintaining and fixing, go back to work all ready to go…. breakdown. Never fails. It’s always exciting to start back up but it’s a total uphill battle until mid June usually. Fighting rain and mud. All it seems to do is rain rain rain. Hopefully it stops soon so my wife doesn’t kill me. (“All he does is mope when it’s raining and it’s so annoying!!” -Chrissy) We are working on a house lot clearing job right now with some selective cutting around it right in our home town of Poland. I don’t know what it is, but I always love working in my town. Gives me the local hometown feel and people will stop in to see what we’re up to. I enjoy when friends and neighbors swing by and get the opportunity to see what happens on a job site.

Waiting for the Chickens to arrive

The landowners plan on having a little farm with horses and chickens. I was out fixing an O-ring on the skidder when I spotted this hawk and its nest up in the tree. I snapped the picture and sent it to the landowner with the caption “don’t worry I won’t cut this one down.” Her reply….. “CUT THAT ONE! They eat chickens!!!!” She might be a crazy chicken lady but we’ll forgive her. (And we left the hawks nest alone, sorry Eryn)

New Garage Site

A few years ago we bought a nice 47 acre piece of land in Poland and built our home and now I am working to build a work garage so I can get out of the old man’s hair. I am 100% sure he won’t be sad to see me take my equipment and get lost. But secretly he will miss me being in his way all the time. I have gone back and forth a million times on how big it should be and how I should set it, but ultimately Chrissy is the boss and she made my mind up for me. All I need is a garage but she insists it has to be “pretty.” Who the heck has a “pretty” garage??? I guess I am going to. It will be nice to have the garage on our property so the boys can easily help out, learn how to maintain equipment, and spend time with Dad.

And finally……… the biggest, most important news of the last couple weeks…… the newest Kimball boy arrived! His birth was a perfect and actually kinda fun experience. (Hint…. Moms… Chrissy says get an epidural!!!!) Chrissy literally was laughing the whole time because she couldn’t believe it. He ended up in the NICU for a blood sugar issue and I was on stay at home dad duty for 5 days. Chrissy wins for having the harder job. We ate more fast food than I’d like to admit during those days…. don’t think the kids minded but YUCK. I don’t want to speak too soon but the baby sure is a decent sleeper right now! It’s crazy how much more relaxed I am with the 3rd baby compared to the first. It certainly helps that he is pretty relaxed too. I don’t know if these boys will grow up to work with me but I hope that growing up around this business teaches them some valuable life lessons that they can use no matter what they choose to do in the future.
