This Week in the Woods

Oh Hey Tom! Thanks to Cross Insurance for the opportunity to see the GOAT in real life

I wanted to write this blog for tomorrow morning, but Randy tells me “the Patriots aren’t playing so everyone’s going to be on their phone.” Ok, Mr. Bigshot who got to sit at the 50 yard line 10 rows up at the Patriots game thanks to Cross Insurance. I’ll do what you say! With tomorrow being Veteran’s Day I’d like to take a moment to truly thank those who have served and continue to serve our great nation. We deeply appreciate the sacrifice and the work you all do to keep us free and safe. Taking the time to reflect on the courage and the sacrifice of the military puts into perspective our work. While we may stress about breakdowns, insurance costs, mill prices, etc we are grateful for the freedom provided to us by those who serve!

As many people may be balking at the upcoming weather forecast, we are quite thrilled with the cold headed our way. When the weather turns cold we can take the skidder out on a wet woodlot and break the ground a bit. The cold nights will freeze the ground enough to lessen the environmental impact on the land. We are going to be moving to a woodlot in Mechanic Falls, aka “The Bog Hoot.” My favorite town in the world. There isn’t a lot of timberland in that little baby 11 sq mile town but we found a little bit to manage.

I’d like to give a shout out to our amazing truck driver and thank Nate Meserve for 1 year of employment with us. We couldn’t have found a better fit for our company. Nate is a fun, happy, responsible driver who shows up early and ready to put in a day’s work. He isn’t afraid to get a little dirty under the truck and he has become like family to us. Not only is Nate our truck driver, he is also a firefighter/EMT for the town of Oxford. His generosity and kindness does not go unnoticed and we appreciate him everyday.

We also would like to welcome a new member to our crew, Brandon Webb. We are thrilled to have him join our team. He has years of experience in the woods operating various pieces of equipment and his skills were evident from day 1. We look forward to working together and can envision Brandon growing with our company for years to come.

Our job up on Jackson Rd is complete, next is Mechanic Falls, and today Randy finalized plans to do a small job up on the historic Poland Spring Inn property. They will be expanding some parking areas and we are looking forward to partnering with Cyndi Robbins & Mark Bosse to complete the project.

That’s really everything that has been going on which is nice… keep praying for no more breakdowns, cold dry weather, and open quotas! (and maybe a little (or a lot) more money for the wood)
