This Week in the Woods

Do I make a good mommy Lumberjack??

What a great night we had sponsoring the Poland PTA trunk-or-treat at the Poland Community School! We were asked to set up trunk and we were happy to oblige! I just love to do things like this especially when it involves adorable little people dressed up as their favorite characters or heroes! We created a little haunted forest with small pine trees, a stick arbor, flashing skulls, and the terrifying sound of a chainsaw running in the back ground (which by the way drained my car battery and I had to be jump started!) We were able to advertise both the logging business and my real estate business so it was a win win for us! It was also great to mingle with our neighboring businesses. Our community is awesome and I am so happy to be a part of it! There were over 500 kids that came through for candy and I simply couldn’t believe it! I bought over 400 pieces of candy and thought perhaps I had over done it! Nope, we needed refills.

Randy has been busy doing various things these past few weeks. They moved onto a job in Poland doing a selective cut for some long time clients of Kimball Logging. Thirty years ago our dad, Ron, cut this woodlot with a chainsaw and his first Timberjack cable skidder. He used to sharpen his saw while he drove back out into the woods. He used to bring his boys out to the woods with him and the landowner recalls Randy as a bright eyed 5 year old desperate to learn everything he could from his dad. A lot has changed since then, and now our bright eyed boys get to swing by after school and on the weekends to learn the trade from their Grampa and Dad!

This past Thursday mother nature blessed someone who needed it with some heavy rain. We were not that someone, but we took the opportunity to participate in BioEnergy day at ReEnergy in Livermore. I have actually never been to the mill so I was quite thrilled with the chance to check it out. We enjoyed a fantastic lunch catered by LaFleur’s out of Jay and then a tour of the plant. I was surprised to learn how they monitor and report their emissions and pretty much the only thing we saw coming from their smoke stack was a little moisture. The control room was quite impressive with their half dozen computer screens managing every little detail of that plant. It was interesting to see how they manage how much electricity they contribute to the grid depending on the demand at any given moment. Cool stuff.

Master Logger presented a road building workshop recently that Randy was able to attend. He said he learned a lot and I’d love to tell you all about it, but he isn’t available to give me the details because the spoiled little brat is on his way to Gillette for his first ever Patriots game!! To say I am immensely jealous is the understatement of the century! We love our Patriots and have talked about going for years and the PLC had an extra ticket with his name on it. Next year I’m going, come hell or high water! But today I’m home with 3 boys and blogging (hahah just trying to make him feel guilty) I’ll be watching from my friend’s cozy home eating buffalo chicken dip, pumpkin whoopi pies (I’m not saving you one hunny!) and a cold Pumpkin Head or two :) Enjoy your Sunday, we know Randy will be!
