This Week in the Woods
I have to say, the weather this summer has been perfect for logging. We had a bit of time when it rained constant but for the most part, its been a nice, dry summer which works out well for us especially because we have been working on a wet piece of land.
The past few weeks have been pretty steady and good. We were able to return to the property we were cutting in Minot and finish out that job. The ground there was exceptionally wet even during these very dry months. There were a lot of challenges there, but we got it done and have moved on to a nice woodlot in Mechanic Falls. Every thing has been extremely slow going. One load here, a couple there. We are having to be very strategic to work around quotas and such. In troubling times, we are incredibly grateful that we are a small, flexible crew that can constantly adapt to the changes.
We are extremely happy to announce that we found and hired a great man to operate the skidder for us. It is easy to find people who know how to operate machinery, but it is rare to find someone who understands the dynamics of the woods. Someone who understands best management practices and takes care of the forest. Operating the skidder is more than just driving back and forth with a machine. It takes a lot of skill and care and I am super picky.
Progress on our office is pretty much stagnant because I haven’t had the time to work on it and to be honest I actually took a weekend off and fished with the family and some friends. I think I could get used to that! I finished mulching down at the ball fields in Mechanic Falls and the place looks like a state park. I personally think it came out amazing and it truly showcases what the mulcher can do.
Have a Great Week!
