Crossing a Pipeline
Every job in the woods is a new opportunity for a unique obstacle. Recently we were presented with a pipeline running straight across where we needed to make a skidder trail. I met with Buckeye Pipeline at the job site before we moved in to make a plan. In the past the recommendation would be to simply bridge the pipeline and it would be safe to cross. There are now stricter guidelines in order to protect the pipe and thus the community surrounding the pipeline.
We took the time to create these custom bridges where we laid two wooden mats parallel to the pipeline and then placed our bridge on top of the logs. This created a situation where the weight of the skidder and felled timber would not put any stress on the actual pipeline.
